What NOT to do in 2017!!

Whether you have never stepped in a gym before or you have had a week or two off, you may be making plans to get started again in the first week of January.

You will be bombarded by the media, friends and family telling you exactly what you should be doing to the point where you will have no idea where to start.

Today we will cover what NOT to do.

1. Aiming for a quick fix

Detoxing, zero carb, juice diets, Herbalife etc. These are just a few of the things I see people embarking on. A simple rules is this,

“If you can’t see yourself doing it in a years time then don’t do it now”

Everything mentioned above will get results in some shape or form. You are also very likely to stop doing it pretty soon because it is just not sustainable, fall back into old habits and end up where you started.

2. Doing nothing but cardio

Cardio burns fat and is good for weight loss right?

Yes, some form has it’s place in any training plan. For long term results and sculpting the body your primary focus needs to be a progressive resistance programme.

3. Training every day

I fully understand you have a new lease of life and you’re determined to get results as quick as possible so you train as much as you can.

As with point 1, you can only carry on like this for so long.

You risk burning yourself out, getting an injury or sick of the gym completely meaning you stop after 6 weeks!

4. Following the wrong plan

If you have never trained before then copying a friend that has been training for 10 years is not the best way to go.

Same goes for following a plan that should be done 5 times a week, if you can only get to the gym 2-3 times a week.

These are just a few pointers to help you in 2017.
